Looking for faster drilling and faster overall projects
Last week, the Department of Energy announced that $20 million in funding is now available to help lower the costs of geothermal energy technology development. At the moment, drilling takes up over 50% of the cost of geothermal energy production projects, and finding ways to drill more efficiently can reduce future geothermal energy efforts significantly.
“There is incredible, untapped potential to use the heat beneath our feet to meet our energy demands with a renewable source that can be found in all pockets of this country,” said Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. “Not only is the use of geothermal energy a significant asset for reaching a carbon-free grid by 2035, it can drive the creation of good paying jobs in energy communities as the country transitions to cleaner, more reliable energy sources.”
